Arrest Records in Grant County
The Grant County Sheriff's Office is the central local contact for patrol incidents, investigations, warrant service, and sheriff arrests. Hyannis has no municipal police department. Ashby and Whitman are unincorporated, so there is no city police records desk to check anywhere in Grant County. Nebraska State Patrol Troop D can also make highway or state-law arrests, and conservation officers or federal agents keep records from their own enforcement work. A request must go to the agency that created the report.
A Grant County arrest history can span several files. The incident report explains the alleged event and the officer's basis for custody. The booking entry records intake, identity, charges, property, and release or transfer. A court file shows what prosecutors later filed and what the judge decided. The Nebraska State Patrol repository ties fingerprint-supported Nebraska arrest cycles to reported dispositions. None of these records replaces the others, and the arrest charge may not match the charge ultimately filed.
Grant County Arrest Record Custodians
Choosing the right custodian avoids a fruitless request. Grant County Sheriff holds sheriff-created arrest and incident material, while NSP retains its own highway or state-enforcement reports. Federal arrests do not appear in Nebraska's JUSTICE court system unless the same event also led to a state case. Wildlife enforcement records belong with Nebraska Game and Parks. The small size of Grant County makes the sheriff the most common first call, but not the owner of every arrest record.
| Arrest source | First official channel | What to request |
|---|---|---|
| Grant County Sheriff | Sheriff at 308-458-2396 | Incident report, arrest sheet, booking or transfer details |
| Nebraska State Patrol | Troop D or NSP records channel | State Patrol incident and arrest report |
| Filed state charge | Grant County Court or District Court | Docket, complaint, hearings, disposition, and sentence |
| Federal agency | Arresting agency and PACER | Agency record and federal court docket |
The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator is the official source for a person serving a federal sentence, not for ordinary Grant County pretrial custody.
This federal search sits outside Nebraska JUSTICE and NDCS, so a missing result does not rule out a local or state arrest record.
Grant County Arrest Lookups
There is no official Grant County online arrest database. A complete lookup uses a short chain of official contacts instead. Have the full name and an approximate arrest date ready. If known, add the event location, arresting agency, report number, or court case number. Very recent custody may not yet have produced a court filing, while an older release will not be proved or disproved by a current roster.
- Call the sheriff. Ask whether the person is in Grant County custody, where the person was taken, and who holds the booking record. The published number is 308-458-2396.
- Contact the receiving facility. Request current custody, booking number, public charge and bond data, and the next court. Confirm the facility before sending funds or planning a visit.
- Check the court trail. Search JUSTICE case information for a new County Court matter, then check District Court if a felony was bound over.
- Use the state repository. Request a Nebraska State Patrol criminal history when the goal is a statewide fingerprint-supported record rather than one Grant County event.
- Submit a focused records request. Use the county's official request route, fax, mail, telephone, or counter for sheriff-created documents when a call or online search does not supply the record.
Note: A new arrest may reach the jail before it reaches the public court docket, so confirm custody first and check JUSTICE later.
No Grant County Booking Log
Grant County publishes no daily arrest log, weekly booking report, jail roster, most-wanted list, sheriff social feed, or app-only custody tool. It also does not name a dedicated county jail or disclose an interlocal holding agreement. A person arrested near Hyannis may be taken to a receiving facility outside Grant County. Searching another county's jail at random can miss the correct custodian and can confuse two people with similar names.
Call the sheriff and ask where the person was booked or transferred. Then contact that facility for the booking number, public charges, bond, custody status, and release or transfer date. The absence of a person from any current roster proves little about past Grant County arrests. A person may have bonded out, been released, moved to another facility, or never appeared on a public roster. A targeted document request is the more durable way to obtain an old booking entry.
The official NDCS Incarcerated Person Search applies only after a person enters Nebraska correctional jurisdiction. It will not find each recent Grant County arrest.
The state locator can show a correctional identity, sentence, facility or status, and release-related data, while the booking custodian holds the arrest intake record.
Arrest Records: What They Contain
A Grant County arrest record should be read field by field. The incident or arrest number identifies the agency file. Dates and locations help separate events, while the arresting agency identifies the office that can explain or correct its own entry. Charges in an intake record are allegations recorded at arrest. Compare them with the prosecutor's filed counts and the court's final disposition before drawing any conclusion.
| Booking Number | The receiving custodian's intake identifier, useful when requesting the full admission and release entry. |
|---|---|
| Booking Date & Time | When intake was recorded, which may differ from the time and place of arrest. |
| Arresting Agency | The sheriff, NSP, conservation officer, or federal office that created the arrest report. |
| Charges | Allegations entered at arrest, not proof of guilt and not necessarily the counts later filed in court. |
| Bond | The public amount or release conditions entered after the court addresses custody, when available. |
| Booking Photograph | Grant County has no public gallery. If a photo exists, request it from the custodian, subject to lawful withholding or redaction. |
| Release Status | Custody, bond, court-ordered release, transfer, sentence completion, or another recorded exit event. |
Medical screening, risk or placement classifications, protected identity numbers, exact cell location, and juvenile data should not be expected in a public copy. Property records and narratives may also be redacted when a Nebraska disclosure exception applies.
Request Grant County Arrest Reports
The county provides an official public-records request channel under the Nebraska Public Records Act. Name the Grant County Sheriff as the office and describe each item separately: the incident or arrest report, booking sheet, jail admission and release entry, dispatch material, and booking photograph if releasable. Give the event date range, location, report or booking number, and preferred format. A narrow request is easier to route than a demand for every record connected to a name.
Neb. Rev. Stat. §84-712 requires a response as soon as practicable and without delay. Within four business days, the custodian should provide access, deny the request with legal grounds, or explain the difficulty, likely completion date, estimated cost, and chance to narrow the request. Grant County publishes no sheriff-specific base fee, copy rate, certified-copy cost, or fixed turnaround beyond that framework. Telephone, fax, mail, the web route, and the counter remain documented options. Confirm current details in the county phone directory.

Grant County Arrests Reach NSP
When a person is booked and fingerprinted after a Grant County arrest, the prints and arrest data can form an arrest cycle in the Nebraska State Patrol repository. The prosecutor then decides whether and what to charge. Grant County Court opens misdemeanor cases and felony preliminary matters. A felony that is bound over proceeds in District Court. Courts and justice partners report dispositions back to NSP, but reporting delay or missing identifiers can leave gaps.
The flow is: Arrest → Booking and fingerprints → Prosecutor review → County or District Court filing → Disposition reported to NSP. The NSP Limited Criminal History Search costs $30 per person and requires first name, last name, date of birth, sex, and race. It reports fingerprint-supported Nebraska arrests and linked dispositions subject to public-removal rules. It is statewide, so it is broader than a Grant County report request but less detailed about the underlying incident.
Recent Grant County Bookings
Recent Grant County bookings must be confirmed by phone because no official local log is published. Ask the sheriff for the receiving facility and then ask that custodian for current status. A newly arrested person may appear in custody records before a complaint reaches County Court. Later, a felony can produce a second court-stage record after bind-over to District Court. Search dates and case numbers help connect those records without treating a name match as identity proof.
Even where a receiving facility publishes a roster, such a list usually answers only whether someone is currently or recently held. Entries can disappear after release or transfer. They do not show every arrest over time and do not supply the final court outcome. For a lasting Grant County booking record, request the intake and release entries. For the prosecution, use the Grant County court case lookup and read each count's disposition.
Grant County Arrest Custody Layers
County booking and parole custody are different record layers. The Nebraska parole overview identifies the Board of Parole as the release decision-maker and the NDCS Division of Parole Supervision as the supervising body. This distinction matters when a Grant County arrest involves a person already under state supervision.
A parole violation follows the state parole record chain, while a new Grant County criminal charge follows the local court chain. The two can move at the same time.
Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
A Grant County arrest record proves that an agency documented an arrest or booking. It does not prove the prosecutor filed that same charge or that a court found guilt. A conviction record comes from a plea or trial judgment in court and is then reported through the justice system. Read both when accuracy matters, since a single event can end with no charge, a different filed count, dismissal, acquittal, deferred judgment, or conviction.
| Arrest Record | Conviction Record |
|---|---|
| Created by the arresting agency and booking custodian | Created by the court after a guilty plea or trial finding |
| Shows that custody or an arrest event was recorded | Shows that a count ended in a judgment of guilt |
| Lives with the sheriff, other arresting agency, and booking custodian | Lives in the court file and can be reported to the NSP repository |
| Can be followed by release, no charge, dismissal, acquittal, or a filed case | Can be followed by sentence, appeal, set-aside proceedings, or other relief |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and many bookings never lead to charges or end in dismissal or acquittal.
